Interview by: Shreshan Shrestha
Sound Cuddles is
not a new name for the audience anymore. By winning the tough competition; Sprite Band Challenge 2, they have proved themself talented and a versatile
rock band. In our today's Babbaal Talkies, we bring you the winner of Sprite Band Challenge 2 - Sound Cuddles.
Welcome to Babbaal
Talkies.
- Thank you for having us here.
First of all we would like to congratulate you for winning Sprite Band
Challenge 2. So how do you feel being as a winner of Sprite band Challenge?
- Thank you. Well... the time we won, it was really
wonderful... We felt very good at that time but now it's all normal as before. As you know about our country's situation, we don't get as we want
it, so the processing is being late. So, due to this we are very disappointed.
How the band came into existence? Could you guys share
your journey to Sprite Band Challenge?
- As you know, before we were known as "All Time Loosers". Back then we were 4 Men Band. We
needed one guitarist, so when we met Saajan, we decided to make our band as 5 Men Band and also keep a different band name. We searched our band name
for the whole night. Next day someone called out as Cuddles then we thought of adding "Sound" in front of it. Everyone agreed with the name. So,
this way we came up with our band name as Sound Cuddles.
Things were unexpected, judges gave us good compliments; we had improved a lot. This
was more encouraging for us. Overall the journey was very exciting.
Any difficulties faced during the challenge?
- We
faced a lot of difficulties. Firstly, it was inflected because everyone talked about them due to the female vocalist. So, we were little afraid of
that. We even thought that we would be eliminated by Top 22 but we were happy when we reached top 22. While reaching to top 6 from top 12; our
confidence level also increased. We started performing even better but sometimes we felt disappointed when we scored less marks from the
judge.
Who do you think was the toughest competitor among the other bands?
- Each band were equally good on their own
side. But the toughest competitors was with Baptizma and Inflected; Baptizma was financially very strong and their votes were always high whereas
Inflected was popular among the audience due to the lead female vocalist. We felt really bad when "The Times" was eliminated reaching top
6.
You had participated in Sprite Band Challenge 1, but you were not able to get through it, how did you feel then?
-
In Sprite Band Challenge 1, we had given our best performance back then comparing to SBC-2. We did not have our own composition so we did cover songs.
It's really hard to reach from top 40 to top 6. We expected the calls for 2-3 days but we felt disappointed when there was no
call.
What is the main reason for keeping your band name as "Sound Cuddles"?
- Actually, we were known as "All Time
Loosers" in Season 1. Band name started from the letter 'A' so we had to do the performance in the beginning. It was very boring to perform in the
beginning. So we thought of keeping our name starting from letters R, S or T. And, we came up with Sound Cuddles. This was the main reason to change
our band name.
How many members are there in your
band?
- We are currently 7 members. Navin Lama and Saajan Lama are on lead guitar, Birat Shrestha is on Bass, Disnesh Shrestha is on
Drums, Rajan Yonjan is on Vocals, and Prashant Bhattarai and Suman Gurung are our Managers.
Has this accomplishment brought any changes
in your life?
- Yes, it has definitely changed our lives. Reaching to this level is a great accomplishment so far. Sprite Band
Challenge 2 has given us a platform to recognize us as a guest band rather than local band. We thank Sprite Band Challenge for this
achievement.
What kind of musical selection do you have?
- We don't have fixed genre. Actually, we prefer all kinds of
music. But we are trying to make people recognize us by our music and we are working on it.
What are your upcoming
plans?
- No such plans yet. Rajan (Vocalist) is going abroad end of this January. But other members will be improvising themselves.
Lets hope for the best.
Won't it effect the Band?
- No, it won't effect the band. Our bass guitarist Birat has a good
vocal as well so he will be doing the vocal parts.
As we know many bands are being apart for their solo careers, will any one from your
bands go for solo in coming future?
- We all are one team so no one is planning to go for solo. We enjoy being in band rather
solo.
Since you have won the challenge, you are coming up with your own first music video. So tell us something about the song that you
are coming up with.
- Well, Prisma Advertisment says, the song must not be related to tragedy and it must be somewhat linked up with
sprite, but we are trying to convince them to make our "Dubi Hera". Lets see what happens.
Whom do you regard as your biggest inspiration?
- Our
inspiration are our families, friends and relatives. In Spite Band Challenge our families are the biggest inspiration. Taking about Bands, we are
inspired by Metallica, My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects, Extreme, Nirvana, Abhaya and the Steam Injuns etc.
What is your
opinion regarding life?
- Life is simple. We must live our life with simple thinking and doing some hard work.
What is
Music for you?
- Well talking about Music, it is everything for us. Life is music and music is life.
What do you like
to do in your leisure?
- Well we are currently taking a break. Apart from that we do jam up with our members.
Before
ending up our conversation, any message to our viewers/fans?
- You guys have been very supportive from the very beginning; we are very
thankful to all of you guys and please keep on supporting us. We love you all and keep on rocking.
Thank you for giving your time and
all the best for your musical journey.
- Thank you once again for having us here.
