The internal dispute in the UML seemed far from over as K.P Sharma Oli, who leads a powerful coterie in the UML, today challenged the party's top
brass to take action disciplinary action against him.
Addressing a meeting of senior party workers supporting him, in Kathmandu, Oli said he
had not breached party's rules and regulations and challenged party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal to take action against him.
Arguing that the
leadership had failed to uphold party's norms, Oli suggested Khanal to stop threatening him with disciplinary action. He also warned of strong
backlash if the party leadership took action against him.
According to Oli, Khanal has been organising meetings of party's committees around
the country without mandate for doing so.
Speaking at the same programme, UML central committee member Krishna Gopal Shrestha said party
chairman Khanal and two other vice-chairmen - Bam Dev Guatam and Ashok Rai - deserved disciplinary action instead of Oli. He said Gautam and Rai are
promoting factionalism in UML.
The vice-chairman duo are said to be close to Khanal.
The internal dispute in UML came to surface after
the collapse of the Maoist-led government and formation of a new government under senior party Madhav Kumar Nepal. Oli, an ardent critic of the
Maoists, had active role in putting together the new coalition whereas Khanal is known for his soft approach towards the Maoists.
